3 Simple Things That Will Rank YouTube Videos Higher

Everything in YouTube, whether views, subscribers, or revenue earning, are all made possible by people viewing your videos.  Therefore, people have to actually see your videos for any of this good stuff to happen!   So it makes sense to do the best you can to make sure that your video will rank high in YouTube.  Since YouTube uses Google's type of search engine for the videos on their site, you have to use (again) the principals of SEO.

For those of you who do not know about SEO (Search Engine Optimization), it is a big deciding factor of success for any website, blog, and pretty much anything on the web.  In this case, it is your video that is going to rely on SEO to get noticed, and thus viewed.

So, what can you do optimize your video's search engine ranking? Well, there are 3 main things that I am going to mention here.  For each one of these factors, I have written an individual post that goes into detail, so be sure to check that out! After all, what is the use of knowing what there is to fix without knowing how to fix it!  After listing these 3 things that YouTube uses to rank it's videos, I will briefly go and describe each one.  However, there is a more detailed post for each one of these things.

The 3 biggest things that Google (and YouTube) look at are...
  1. Tags
  2. Title
  3. Description
Now, Google also looks at a few other things like links, back-links, and more but these are a little more complicated and not-so-easy.  They are also not as important as the three factors mentioned above.  Let's dive in!

Tags are those little key words and phrases seen at the very bottom of YouTube's Upload page.  Tags are essential to getting a video noticed.  This is because Google uses tags to see which search results to display the video on.  For example, if one of my tags were "Gaming", then whenever someone searches that tag, my video will appear somewhere down the line of videos. Of course, my video would probably be somewhere around page 60 or more for a popular, generic tag like that, but the point is that my video would be there somewhere.  Now, more specific and correctly thought out tags work better than generic ones.  There is much more to learn on tags (which are probably the most important thing here) that I will not cover in this post, so again, be sure to check out my other post on "Making the Most Out of YouTube Tags".

The Title of your YouTube video is almost every bit as important as tags!  This is because of the way Google's Search Engine works.  Now I am going to bring back that term, SEO, and explain how it will tie in to you YouTube video's title.  Title's packed with rich, searched-for keywords and phrases will rank significantly higher in YouTube and Google.  On the contrary, YouTube videos with poorly thought out titles that only have two to three low traffic keywords will not do well and not get many views.  Sorry to say it, but the quality and content of a video is not what brings in the viewers.  I have seen great videos that have less than 100 views and I have seen very poor videos that have thousands of views (and dislikes!) The point is, you have to optimize your YouTube video in every way possible so that it gets views.  Once again, for more detailed information on optimizing YouTube video titles, check out my post about it!

Lastly, I am going to go over the importance of a well written YouTube video description.  Keep in mind that YouTube video tags, titles, and descriptions may be edited at any time, so don't feel like you missed out if you already uploaded a video without a description or something because you can edit and add!  Whenever I see a YouTube video with no description, I always think to my self "Jeez.  What were they thinking?"  And although having a good enticing description might increase your chances of someone clicking on your video, that is not what the description is best used for.  For an video, YouTube or not, always right a description that not only describes the video, but is rich in keywords and other phrases that will help it's SEO and ALEXA rating (an entire different subject).  Writing a good description will certainly help your video get a tremendous amount of views and rank much higher in Google's and YouTube's search engine.  As I said earlier, in order to learn more in depth about how to write an optimized YouTube description, check out my post about "writing a good YouTube video description".

So that's all for now, folks! Feel free to check out some of my other posts and tutorials that are all about optimizing and customizing your YouTube Channel and Videos.
I hope this helped! Until next time...
